There are a number of amenities nearby, including supermarkets, local shops, take aways, public transport, and fuel stations.

SUPERMARKETS

The nearest supermarket is in Clifton Moor, 6.7 miles from the annex (about a 12 minute drive). You will find the Tesco at Stirling Road, York, YO30 4XZ.

If you are travelling into York City Centre, you can also find a Morrisons supermarket at Foss Islands Road, York, YO31 7UL.

LOCAL SHOPS
There is a garden shed (quite literally!) a few doors down from Birch House & Birch Tree Retreat where you can buy eggs, chutney, vegetables and other basic bits depending on the time of year.
A long walk or short car drive away just over 1.2 miles is Bakers of Huby a community run village shop, it has a post office counter and stocks everything from papers and milk through to cake, biscuits, meat and veg! The shop is open: Friday 8am–6pm, Saturday 8am–12:30pm, Sunday 9am–11:30am, Monday 8am–6pm, Tuesday 8am–6pm, Wednesday 8am–6pm, Thursday 8am–6pm
Alternatively, in the other direction in the village of Stillington you will find a very similar shop, their opening hours are as follows:
Shop: Monday to Friday: 6.30am - 5.30pm, Saturday 6.30am - 1.00pm, Sunday: Closed
Post Office: Monday to Friday: 9.00am - 5.30pm, Saturday 9.00am - 12.30pm, Sunday: Closed
If you are looking for a slightly larger store you will find a Co-Op in nearby Easingwold and a Sainsburys Local and Co-Op in Haxby both are approximately 6 miles, one in the direction of Thirsk the other the direction of York. I highly recommend a visit to Easingwold if you have time to pop in to one of the cafes and have a look around the gift and interior shops, as it is a market town a country market is held in the square every Friday and every third Wednesday of the month.

TAKE AWAYS
We have provided some menu leaflets for your convenience but most now allow you to view and order online.
Delivery - two of the takeaways will deliver to Sutton on the Forest, Pizza Box & Pizza World as the name suggests both are predominantly pizzas but also offer alternatives such as parmesans and burgers.
Fish & Chips - there is a small fish & chip takeaway in Huby which is open Friday 11:30am–1:30pm, 4:30–9pm, Saturday 11:30am–1:30pm, 4:30–7pm and Tuesday to Thursday 4:30–9pm

Nearby Haxby (approximately 6 miles) has various take aways including pizza, Indian food, Chinese, fish & chips (highly recommended having been awarded the title of the best fish & chips in the UK 2017).
